At the same time, there existed an unofficial culture aimed at showcasing authors and works not permitted by the government establishment, demonstrating that there were modes of cultural expression different from those allowed by the State. College residences were places where cultural events could take place, events whose content would have been very difficult or impossible to occur elsewhere, involving the transmission of ideas contained in the recited, performed, projected, or discussed works by individuals either belonging to or external to the college environment. This cultural dissemination continued after Francoism as a means of advocating for changes in the new stage that was opening up in the Spanish political landscape. Despite being a supposedly closed environment, the reality was that the cultural events of the Colleges were aimed at the general public, not just members of the university community.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/412“Mohamothizing heretics” in 18th century Granada: lineages, diaspora and leads of Sacromonte2024-07-09T18:01:24+00:00Mercedes García-Arenalmercedes.garciaarenal@cchs.csic.es
Between 1728 and 1731 a series of autos de fe took place in Granada involving some 250 people accused of «Islamizing». These autos de fe caused a great commotion in Granada, as they affected prominent figures in the life of the city, and produced a large amount of documentation. The purpose of this essay is to review this documentation, focusing on the following aspects: the Moorish elites (in particular the Figueroa and Aranda families) and their possible enemities and rivalries with other families of the oligarchy, the survival of the population of Islamic origin in the peninsula after the expulsion of 1609-14 and their contacts with the diaspora, as well as the observation of Islamic beliefs and rituals, some of them invented or the product of a process of syncretisation, among which stands out the Morisco belief in the Plomos del Sacromonte as an Islamic text.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/413Elena Poirier: more than a child’s illustrator2024-07-09T18:01:25+00:00Blanca García Moreno-Torresblancagmt@ugr.es
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/414Ancient communications in the pre-Betic mountain range. The imprecise graphic representation and the null written references to this route make it very difficult to define the route of this road. However, these pages serve to present the documentation available to us at the time of this report, our proposed route and the interpretative possibilities opened up by the existence of this itinerary.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/415The properties of the College of the Society of Jesus in Granada in the 18th century: the Santa Catalina and Alboyar estates2024-07-09T18:01:25+00:00Beatriz García-Torres Roblesbeatrizgtrobles@gmail.com
The purpose of this work is to approach two rural properties of the College of San Pablo of the Society of Jesus in Granada: the Santa Catalina estate and the Alboyar estate, belonging to the Partido del Temple. To do this, various sources will be used, with the «Catastro de Ensenada» being a notable one. Through the analysis of these properties in the Kingdom of Granada, the goal is, on one hand, to deepen our understanding of them, and on the other hand, to demonstrate the originality of the Jesuit production model, which was completely distinct from the pattern of agricultural exploitation in Andalusia during the Old Regime.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/416New data about Mudéjars and Morisks of Guadix: from the establishment of la Morería to the congregation of the royal chapel (1490-1526)2024-07-09T18:01:25+00:00Carlos Javier Garrido Garcíaabenaxara@yahoo.es
This article analyzes the documents referring to Mudejars and Moors ceded by the family of Alfonso Labella Dávalos to the Municipal Archive of Guadix. The analysis carried out in 2023 on a large complex of stone structures located in the town of Gérgal (Almería) is shown, which until now had no previous studies. The application of a methodology based on Landscape Archeology and Architectural Archeology, together with the use of information and communication technologies through a Geographic Information System (GIS), have allowed us to obtain novel data about the magnitude and nature of these historical structures, and interpret them as part of a transhumant livestock production system. This in turn has allowed us to understand in greater depth the importance of livestock farming in the study area, confirming the existence of a large-scale transhumant model during modern times.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/418Family care between two centuries: Granada and Jaén in testimonies of romantic travelers and costumbrist writers2024-07-15T19:09:08+00:00Sonia Herrera Justiciasoniaherrerajusticia@gmail.comManuel Amezcua Martinezmamezcuam2@gmail.com
This study analyzes family practices related to health in Granada and Jaén in the period between centuries, from the 19th to the 20th. The approach is produced through the works of romantic travelers and costumbrist writers, who, in their exaltation of the local culture, provide very descriptive testimonies about the everyday world, showing customs and traditions used in the domestic environment for health care. The therapeutic options that the texts include range from the most institutionalized to a diversity of culturally inherited empirical knowledge. The comparative analysis of the sources shows the validity that a good part of that familiar knowledge continues to have in our daily life. In conclusion, the opportunity offered by the recovery, renovation and revaluation of the traditional knowledge testified in the sources to reinforce caregiving skills in contemporary families, as well as their cultural identity, is proposed.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/419To understand the role of the last Trastámara at the end of the war in Granada (april 1491-may 1492). Attracted by personalities such as Federico García Lorca and Fernando de los Ríos, some of these young people began their academic training at the University, took part in the activities of the Ateneo and collaborated in projects such as the review Gallo and the Federación Universitaria Escolar. One of them, Nicolás Ramiro Rico, stood out early on as a cultural critic, student activist and researcher on Law. Based on his articles in the press, his readings, his practices as an agitator and his research work on Jean Bodin, this article reconstructs the intellectual environment in Granada during the Silver Age, the youth culture of the young avant-gardists and the formation of the Granada School of Political Law, and reflects on the relationship between intellectuals and the town.

2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/421Women owners in the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada (14th and 15th centuries)2024-07-09T18:01:25+00:00Juan José Vela Jiménezjveljim20@gmail.com
The decline of the last fully Islamic kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula and the way of life of the women who inhabited it constitute a topic of research that, although long known, still requires specific studies to contribute to a clearer and more accurate understanding of their reality. The proposal of this work is based on an approach to the women who lived in the final years of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada (14th-15th centuries), given the wealth of documentation available on this historical context, and considering the exceptional circumstances of this territory. Therefore, through a total of 107 documents consulted in which women appear as property owners, an exploration is presented of their way of life and above all their ability to own real estate according to the social and political context of the time.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/422Modern in Secondary Education: from historiography to the classroom2024-07-09T18:01:25+00:00María del Mar Simón Garcíammar.simon@uclm.es
The purpose of this article is to propose a teaching of history that tries to establish links with current social phenomena and problems that make this knowledge basic for the development of educational competencies; in addition to reflecting on the relevance of the Modern Age in the historical and civic education of Secondary Education students. Firstly, the evolution of content on the Modern Age in the Spanish curriculum since 1990 has been detailed, in comparison with the trajectory of modernist historiography in the 21st century. Secondly, the research has focused on analyzing the treatment of the Modern Age in Secondary School textbooks in Spain with the previous educational law (LOMCE), carrying out an analysis of the contents of this historical period and its activities according to its typology, cognitive level and historical competencies. Finally, the third study has focused on the most relevant images about this historical era according to future teachers. The analyzes carried out on the curriculum, textbooks and teachers in training show how a historical story still survives with little reflection on the social problems of the Modern Period. These results confirm the need to redefine a historical education that develops historical and critical thinking skills, and that allows a constant dialogue in the present and the past.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://cehgr.es/revista/index.php/cehgr/article/view/424Franquismo patógeno.
