Abstract

The Acequia Real run from the Almunia of the Generalife to the Medina of the Alhambra through an aqueduct that crosses the ravine of the Cuesta de los Chinos. This aqueduct, contemporary to the founding of the canal in 1238 by Ibn al-Aḥmar, the first sultan of the Nasrid dynasty of Granada, has undergone a number of repairs, and some in-depth reform at the beginning of the 18th century. The aqueduct has been the only water inlet to the Alhambra since its foundation in the 13th century until the 1920s, when municipal drinking water was introduced in the times of Leopoldo Torres Balbás.
