Abstract

This work provides a brief study and the Book of Baza´s municipal ordinances from 1533 edition. The significance of Baza as a historical subject and its relevance for the global understanding of the Nasrid kingdom and, later, of the kingdom of Granada throughout the Modern Ages make this text key for those who want to know what the city was like in 1533. This compilation is also useful to know how society was articulated in many different aspects at the beginning of the xvi century in the kingdom of Granada and in the Crown of Castile because although they are a concrete example, the Bastetan ordinances are part of a reality that goes beyond what is strictly local. As a historical source, they become a mirror of society and culture despite of all its particularities.
