New data about Mudéjars and Morisks of Guadix: from the establishment of la Morería to the congregation of the royal chapel (1490-1526)

This article analyzes the documents referring to Mudejars and Moors ceded by the family of Alfonso Labella Dávalos to the Municipal Archive of Guadix. This new documentation allow us to better understand the evolution of the city’s population of Islamic origin during the Mudejar period and the beginning of the Moorish period, clarifying aspects Little known up to now such as the establishment of the Morería in the city, the assets ceded to the Council in the Alhama river, the so far unknown second repopulation of 1518 and the royal decrees of September 1526 that sought to eliminate the abuses suffered by the Moors to pave the way for the acculturative measures that the Board of the Royal Chapel of Granada would establish shortly after.
