Abstract

This work, written by a medievalist, is only intended to provide a modest contribution to the roots of Spanish National Catholicism, which developed during the Franco dicta-torship. It analyses twenty-three of the sermons that were preached in the cathedral of Granada during the 19th century on the occasion of the Día de la Toma. The analysis is completed with some brief notes on the personalities of the speakers and is closed by an appendix that includes the full title of these pieces of sacred oratory, the verses that —as a key argument— open them, and the details of their location, although the vast majority are kept in the Old Library of the University of Granada.
