Abstract

This article analyses the difficult implementation of democracy during the long interwar period (1918-1945) in the town of Santa Fe (Granada). To do so, it studies the main obstacles that the democratization project had, that is, the corrupt practices, the conservative reaction, abuses and violence by local authorities. And this by focusing on the different political systems throughout the period: from the 'Restauration' and the Primo de Rivera dictatorship to the II Republic, the civil war and the first period of Francoism.
